NZ Boat Sales began in 1993 as Optimum Marine and Shipbrokers.

In 2010, the company underwent a name change to NZ Boat Sales, commencing operations with six brokers across Nelson, Picton, Wellington, and Christchurch.

In 2022, NZ Boat Sales was acquired by its current owner, who was operating MarineWorx Boat Sales at the time – the smallest brokerage in Nelson.

Later in 2022, MarineWorx Boat Sales was brought under the NZ Boat Sales brand, resulting in it becoming Nelson’s largest boat brokerage, with a total of nine brokers across Nelson, Picton, Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland.

In 2025, NZ Boat Sales and City of Sails Marine (Auckland) merged their brokerage interests, adding additional listings along with the expertise and knowledge of the City of Sails Marine owners.

With a continued drive to keep NZ Boat Sales at the forefront of the New Zealand marine brokerage industry, the first-ever Reverse (Dutch) Auction was successfully carried out in December 2025, with a further three underway in early March 2026.

Broker expansion continued with the appointment of a Havelock (South) broker, increasing the number of brokers to 10 across six locations.

New boat sales agencies were secured for Rodman, Quarken, and Assault, signalling the beginning of NZ Boat Sales’ transition into a full-service marine brokerage.

In April 2026, three new brokers joined the team, putting the company on track to become the largest brokerage network in New Zealand.

May 2026 saw our broker network grow to 21 brokers across 14 locations, with further expansion planned.

It is our aim to ensure we have brokers located in all high vessel-use areas of New Zealand and to service all sectors of the boating industry.
